A sneak peek

We've been working on our bedroom for the past week since hubby's off work for a couple weeks yay!:) I'm no interior designer but I'm very excited because I think we will love it and that's what matters. Not everything is in place yet, but I wanted to share just a couple pictures..
I saw this door at a garage sale over a year ago. $5? Yep only $5 so I couldn't leave it. It's been sitting in the garage till recently. First I painted it an off white and distressed it, then changed it to white and in the process of distressing it again. Let's see how it turns out...So this is what's been keeping us busy lately.

A few months ago I started making rosettes. When the room is finished you'll know where they end up. ;) Not too much longer!

I feel like I need to alternate between different projects so as not to get bored doing the same thing for too long. I have been trying to come up with a more professional camera strap cover and still keep the shabby, vintage look. I don't know...I'm working on a few more trying different things and I'll be sure to post if they are a success...maybe just maybe put them on Etsy.. :) We'll see.

Handmade envelopes! Been falling in love with them again and made a bunch just lately. The brown ruffled envelopes are made for cd covers, and the green ruffled are for 4 by 6 photos!

Some little things I enjoy or have been working on lately. As usual, it's either made of free or thrift store materials, old clothes or left over scraps.. =)Those things make me happy.. hehe
How beautiful is hand stitching? I was going through some of my little pieces of fabrics and decided I would start a sort of crazy quilt..not sure if that's what I'm going to end up with, but I am so excited with the first few blocks. =)
After many, many attempts I finally like my crochet rugs(mini rugs for now)in soft floral prints!

I love yellow! Well any colour really, but yellow is so cheerful. Love the little drawers that came with some free furniture. I don't have any reasons to throw a party of any kind, so I feel the need to do mini set ups..in yellow and in blue. =)

More free furniture. I don't think we need any more for now!

Our boys love it when I take the time to make them something. They'll stand and watch and keep asking if it's done yet.. =) Some of their cars are so tiny and get lost easily, so this car caddy seemed like a perfect solution to keep them safe and something that could make road trips a little more enjoyable. Mind you by the time we make our next road trip this won't be exciting anymore and I'll have to make something new.

packages in the mail

I love receiving packages in the mailbox. This fall necklace/scarf/lariat arrived today! Awhile back I showed my sister-in-law a picture of a scarf that I adored, and in no time she whipped one up for me. It's gorgeous and I love!..Thank you Lupi!

As soon as I saw that headboard lying on a junk pile by the curb, I slammed the breaks..it just had to fit in the car. Poor boys were squished and were not too happy with me...but I needed it and knew exactly what I wanted it for. Knowing my creative husband, I laid out my plan.. haha.. I'm always amazed how he can build things exactly how I envision them.. The front legs are spindles that we snatched up from the curb as well. Another fun project complete..what's next?

My summer highlight

Ok I'm back to these pics finally! After not seeing my dearest friend Rosie C for almost 4 years, you can imagine we had lots of catching up to do! She is so beautiful inside and out, and has a way with children I can only dream of.. Our boys fell in love with her instantly.=)

On this gorgeous evening, we went for a very relaxed dinner including my sisters then we tried a little photo shoot and well it wasn't perfect but we had a blast so it was worth it.

It is not worth losing sleep over fun projects. sighh. The thrill of designing and making is what keeps me awake at night. :( I will need to cut back so I don't age too quickly. ;-) And focus on projects that need to be done.. good plan! But that means less browsing of inspirational blogs/sites like Ruche... The top below was inspired by something I saw on Ruche. After it was done, I decided to add braids instead of the lace. love gray and beige. Seriously though I need to cut back.

Happy Birthday to Braydon and me! I don't care much about celebrating my b-day but if I make Braydon's day special anyway, why not make myself a pretty cupcake to enjoy:). B's 4th birthday and my age doesn't matter..

I didn't want to spend a lot of time making stuff, and this definitely didn't take very long. I wanted a nature theme for Braydon's cupcakes, and I love love moss and always admire it. So I found a rotten branch covered in moss for the base, and a sheet of moss at my sis to cover the plate. The template for cupcake holders I found online, so I grabbed a frog scrap paper and cut them out. They really are only for appearance, it got messy because of the cupcake holder. For the letters, I simply melted chocolate chips and wrote the letters on parchment paper and hardened them in the freezer. Braydon was totally thrilled about having the neighbour children over to share his cupcakes with and to get to know them better.
Because I enjoy decorating, I found some ugly brass candle holders, spray painted them white (yes I have to paint everything) and tiny little plates, glued the plates to the candle holders and love how the cupcakes are sitting so pretty. haha. :)

It's definitely very special to share a Birthday with your own child..

Yes there's only one candle..=) He didn't mind.

In the evening we went to King's park which is very close to our place and took a relaxing walk. I borrowed a little scooter from mom and dad for Braydon. He learnt so quickly to balance the scooter with both feet on it and is super fast with it

I've been trying out new envelopes and I think I've come up with a couple simple designs I like.. Will see how this goes..

Sunday, June 6, 2010

My latest thing is rag roses that's for sure.. I have had a lot of time for creating lately. =) Braydon and Luke's grandpa from Belize has been staying with us for awhile now and my boys are just hanging around him all the time, so what would I possibly do with my precious "free" time?? ;) I first saw these gorgeous camera strap slipcovers here and thought hmmm.. Mine definitely isn't perfect but hey I like it and really it's so comfy compared to the bare strap around my neck!

vintage scarflette

This is what I've been working on. A simple, ragged vintage, summery scarf!(or winter). A lot of times when I imagine something in my head, I go and try to create it. Sometimes nothing becomes of it, but this time I totally love how the scarf turned out..

necklace tutorial

I usually don't post tutorials, but this is such a simple necklace, I thought I'd share the few steps it takes to make it! Anyone can do it.:) I have made many fabric covered bead necklaces lately so my sister asked if I couldn't do ruffles instead of beads... why not? Here are are things you'll need:
Old t-shirt (any material would work)
scissors
needle and thread
That's all you need.
First cut a very long strip of fabric, mine was about 65" long.

Tie a knot about 12" from the end.

Grab your needle and thread, make a few stitches down the center and ruffle the fabric.

Keep repeating the knots and ruffles until you've got about 12" left on the other end.

There you have it!

Ruffle necklace

The possibilities are endless!;) My first attempt at this particular necklace and wow I think a yellow or green one would look fabulous..I'm gone to the fabric store in case you can't find me. haha.. A thank you to Rosie Haberl for sharing this idea! I guess this one should be hers..or not.;)
